A pharmacology researcher at Ohio State University has added his seventh recantation, four years after a finding of ill conduct by the U.S. Office of Integrity (ORI).

An decomposition of the work of Terry Elton determined that he had

falsified and/or fabricated Western blots in eighteen (18) figures and in six (6) published papers.

In 2012, the ORI finding, which resulted in a three-year funding excommunication (that is now complete), recommended that Elton rescind all six papers, one of which had already been retracted at the time of the make known.

Four years later, the ultimate of the six papers flagged ~ means of the ORI has finally been retracted by Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology.

Here’s the disavowal notice:

An investigation ~ dint of. the Office of Research Integrity determined that falsified and/or fabricated images were included in Fig. 6 of the on top of article (http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2012-12-26/html/2012-30866.htm).

The 2006 document, “TGF-β1 regulation of human AT1 receptor mRNA splice variants harboring exon 2,” has been cited seven ages (once since 2012), according to Thomson Reuters Web of Science.

An Elsevier spokesperson told us the hinder in retraction of the Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology essay was due to an “admin misdeed.”

In going through the schedule of Elton’s papers recommended according to retraction by the ORI, we establish two notices issued in 2013 that we missed at the time.

First, here’s the retraction notice for “Human Chromosome 21-derived miRNAs are Over-expressed in Down Syndrome Brains and Hearts:”

This count has been retracted: please see Elsevier Policy forward Article Withdrawal (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/withdrawalpolicy).

The 2008 paper, in Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, has been cited one time.

And here’s the retraction take cognizance of for “Transcriptional regulation of the AT1 receptor gene in immortalized human trophoblast cells,” published by Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) – Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids:

This quantifying pronoun has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief and Author. The branch contains improperly prepared data in Figs. 5, 6B, 7B and 9B that are unreliable. The authors apologize to the readers as antidote to this error and for any unseasonableness associated with the publication of the paper.

The 2004 paper has yet to exist cited.

All six of the papers flagged by the ORI have now been retracted. In 2013, Elton lost some additional paper in The Journal of Biological Chemistry that was not flagged by the ORI for unclear reasons. This is the stretch of the notice:

This article has been retracted ~ means of the publisher.

An Ohio State spokesperson confirmed that Elton is after what is stated based at the university, but declined to argue whether there are any ongoing investigations into his moil.

Previously, the university sent us this statement on the case:

Dr. Elton has believed a written reprimand; will be required to partake in mandatory counseling on research bad conduct and complete formal training on careful search ethics; and he is prohibited from supervising or serving for the re~on that a primary advisor to any undergraduate or recipient students, postdoctoral trainees, or laboratory technicians on this account that three years. In addition, all manuscripts and largess applications that Dr. Elton participates in decision be reviewed and approved by seminary of learning officials prior to submission for a proposition of five years.

Elton is a well-cited researcher, through at least 14 papers cited greater degree of than 100 times each.
