Greetings everyone! Please second me welcome to the blog today original and university professor Dr. Shay West.
First, a slender bit about today’s guest…
ShayWest was born in Longmont, CO and earned a doctorate class in Human Medical Genetics from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical. Dr. West currently lives in Grand Junction, CO through her two cats. When not title novels, she plays with plushie microbes and teaches biology classes at Colorado Mesa University. She is the inventor of the Portals of Destiny concatenation, the Adventures of Alexis Davenport succession, and Organ Reapers. She has furthermore been published in several anthologies: Battlespace (martial scifi), Orange Karen: Tribute to a Warrior (permanent ~ raiser), Ancient New (steampunk/fantasy), and Horror in Bloom.
Q1: In adding to being a writer, you desire a pretty interesting, amazing day job. Would you tell us a contemptible about that please?
SW: I’m a literary institution biology professor and I do bring forth to say that it’s the in the highest degree job in the world (besides substance a writer of course!). I gain to share my love of the regular world and the human body by my students. I teach a tier of topics, from general biology to human structure, to pharmacology, to neuroscience. A great quantity of my story/book ideas advance from my classes 😉
Q2: The next question is of particular interest to me for example someone who used to do ‘cosplay’ back whenever we just called it ‘fertilizer up’ LOL! I’ve seen pictures of you in FANTASTIC Steampunk cosplay outfits for various events. What led you to take up this wooden horse, and is it really as abundant fun as it looks? (I’m betting it is!)
SW: Oh gosh, cosplay is in like manner much fun! I really only got into it a link of years ago. It’s agree of an expensive habit and I can’t stitch worth a darn so I end up having to buy the costumes tolerably than sewing them myself. I may accept to enlist my mom for a really neat idea I have for a Doctor Who edge.
Q3: If you could go to some Steampunk event/ComicCon/Fan Event in the nature, which one would you choose, and for what cause?
SW: Definitely San Diego Comic Con. I’d prompt to meet my favorite celebrity guests and gain their autographs and pictures. It’s truly amazing how a gifted actor/actress be able to make a character come to life and strike one as being so real. I think I acquire a better relationship with fictional characters than absolute people.
Q4: I read about this without interrupti~ your profile at Booktrope under ‘inconsiderable known fact about me’ and in such a manner I have to ask… carry into practice you really have three Star Trek tattoos? I won’t ~er where they are, but would you like to narrate us a little about what they symbolize to you? (I’m a life-lengthy, die-hard Trekkie so this is of major interest to me! I have wanted a Trek tattoo for years, you’re living my dream! LOL)
SW: HAHA! I actually do have three Star Trek tattoos and they are in place of ~ty areas LOL. I got them in my at the opening of day 20’s and I don’t bemoan a one. I have always loved Star Trek: Next Generation and the model that human kind (for the greatest part part) can overcome our petty differences and exist part of something greater than a unwedded person alone. Getting rid of barrenness, disease, war…seems like a grand thing to try to achieve.
Q5: *reward question for everyone* Do you muster anything? If so, why?
SW: I have recently begun collecting antiques. I’ve at all times liked old things. My spare apartment has become a display area conducive to my steampunk cosplay items as well like some of my antiques. I furthermore have a pretty decent collection of movies and TV succession.
But…but…but… I yet want to know what the Star Trek symbols/tattoos ARE! LOL Maybe next time!
